FAQ - Blood values - Too much iron

Modified on Thu, 24 Mar, 2022 at 9:18 AM

What happens if the iron value is too high?

Iron is important for the forming of hemoglobine, this is a part of the redbloodcells which helps in absorbing oxygen.

Too much iron in the body can lead to chronic fatigue or damaged organs to the liver, intestines and heart.

For this reason it is advised for people with "iron overload disease" (hemochromatose) to use chewing tablets without iron.

Ingesting more than 45 miligrams of iron a day can also cause acute stomach and intestine issues like nauseousness, vomitting, diarrhea, and constipation.
